USMS Associate Teacher
An Associate Teacher is a paraprofessional who is in formal training to become a certified Montessori teacher. Under the supervision of a teacher, the Associate Teacher assissts the USMS teacher in performing each of the Teacher's duties with the goal of "learning by doing" the responsibilities of a Montessori Teacher. Full certification is achieved upon supervised program and completion of off-site coursework required bu the American Montessori Society. Associate Teachers are paid hourly.

USMS Teaching Assistant
A Teaching Assistant is an employee with classroom responsibilities who supports the Teachers during the school day, 9:00 am to 3:30 pm. The USMS Teaching Assistant is directly responsible to the Director and the classroom teachers. Teaching Assistants have no formal montessori training but are instructed in and expected to understand the Montessori philosophy and the importance of teaching each child with respect. Teaching Assistants are paid hourly. The following is the
Teaching Assistant's role:

1. Assist in carrying out all directives of the Teacher such as preparing materials.
2. Present materials as directed by the Teacher.
3. Help to maintain the classroom environment in a thorough and consistent manner.
4. Help to maintain anectdotal records on students, e.g. accident reports.
5. Attend monthly staff meetings, school functions as requested, and training programs.
6. Arrange for a substitute when sick and notify the Director.
7. Dress appropriately.
8. Share school coverage on days that school is not in session but open for childcare.
9. Help to identify needed supplies.
10. Assist children during their arrival and dismissal to and from school
11. Maintain a professional relationship with parents and other staff members
12. Take charge of the classroom or playground when Teacher or Associate Teacher is not present.

Extended Day Aides
Extended Day Aides assist with childcare before school (7:00am-9:00pm) and/or after school (3:30pm - 6:30pm). Extended Day Aides are paid hourly. Followin is a list of the responsibilities of the Extended Day Aide:
1. Assist in carrying out directives from the Director and Teachers
2. Maintain a safe, clean childcare environment
3. Supervise children before school and prepare them for their Montessori day
4. Supervise children after school and prepare them to go home
5. Straighten up the childcare room at the end of the day
6. Maintain a professional relationship with parents and other staff members
7. Make sure that notices go home with children who are receiving after school care
8. Dress appropriately
9. Share school coverage on days when school is not in session but open for childcare
10.Open and close the building
11.Attend staff meetings, school functions as requested and recommended training programs
